Vaping is now overtaking smoking in terms of popularity. That's an awful lot of vape pens, but not everyone knows how to take care of theirs. Do you know how to handle your vape coil?
This is a crucial part of your set-up, but one which is often overlooked.
It's the part of your vape which is in contact with both the battery and the e-liquid. It heats up the vape liquid, which creates the all-important vapour.
But when does your vape coil need changing, and how do you do it?
Because the coil is being heated rapidly to create vapour, it will burn out after a while. They're disposable bits of kit, by their nature. So you'll need to learn to do this sooner or later.
Vaping with a coil that needs replacing can create a 'burnt' flavor, which isn't that pleasant. Or your e-liquid might taste a bit off.
An old coil can even cause leaks, though this is often in combination with at least one other factor.
These problems are why you should replace your coils regularly.
You should replace the coil at least once a month.
You should swap it out more often than this if you vape a lot, especially some of the sweeter flavours as this will wear the coil out faster.
If your e-liquids start tasting odd, it's definitely time to switch.
Get yourself some tissues or gloves to work with. Gloves are better.
Never forget this part! You should always avoid getting any e-liquid on your hands. If you do, rinse your hands thoroughly in warm soapy water right away.
Nicotine can be absorbed through the skin, and this can cause poisoning in a worst-case scenario. This is unlikely, so long as you wash right away.
If you've spilled the liquid on a work surface or floor, clean it up before you carry on changing the coil.
Also take the new coil out of its packaging before you begin, for a smooth transition.
Unscrew the battery from the tank over a sink. Tip the contents of the tank down the sink, and pour water to clean.
Next, unscrew the tank's cap. You'll find this at its bottom. Take off (unscrew) the coil from the cap. Dispose of the old coil.
Screw the new coil onto the cap, then fill the tank back up with fresh e-liquid.
Once you're done, put everything back together and wipe it down with a clean damp cloth. Dry it off and check for leaks. Tighten if necessary.
If it all looks good, wait for a few minutes so the liquid soaks into the cotton. You're then ready to get back to vaping.
Vape coils are easy to find online. Lots of vaping enthusiasts prefer to buy multipacks to save money, and time on re-ordering coils in the future.
